KEMPF, KINNE AND COPELAND MAY ALSO BE IN THE RACE

W. W. Wedemeyer is not going to have everything his own way in regard to securing the Washtenaw delegation to the republican congressional convention.

Said a well known leader of the party today: "Hon. Reuben Kempf, with a half million at his back, may shy his castor into the ring and this might prove too much for Wedemeyer, even though championed by Judson and Glazier with all his money and push.

"And again, at the final round up the name of Judge E. D. Kinne may be suddenly sprung. You probably could not get Judge Kinne to admit it, but I don't think he would refuse the nomination if it came to him.

"Then, too, there is Mayor Copeland, who is undoubtedly in the race to win. Ever since Copeland got elected mayor by a big majority he has "had his eye cocked toward Washington.

"Wedemeyer is distinctly a Judsonite and, while he has a great machine back of him, he may meet the fate of Newkirk."

What the prominent republican says as above quoted is undoubtedly true. There is going to be some fine fun ahead for the boys, the politicians and the money seekers.

Reuben Kempf had a taste of political life while a state senator and a man is a goner when once inoculated with statesman germs. He has the money and is a great business man. He wouldn't like anything better than to round up his business career with congressional honors.

Judge Kinne was mentioned for congress some time ago and he has never taken any steps to suffocate the report. He probably would not get out and make any active hustle for delegates, but may be in a position of a compromise candidate. His position of circuit judge has not been profitable as a financial scheme and he has had all the honors coming with the position. There is no lawyer of his rank and experience who has not earned more money than Judge Kinne has profited by his salary. As between a circuit judgeship at $2,500 a year and a congressional job at $5,000 a year he would not hesitate long. He deserves some promotion.

Mayor Copeland is a politician. He has demonstrated that he can trim his trees in good shape and he has never yet been defeated in his ambitions for office and position, whether it has been in Methodist conferences, the University or politics. He is a ready talker and a man one likes to meet personally. He has the Judson-like handshake and is a gum-shoe hunter after votes and delegates.

With Wedemeyer, Kempf, Kinne and Copeland as starters the race will be a pretty one in Washtenaw county.
