A Christmas tree delighted the people of the county house Christmas afternoon. It was annual Christmas tree at the county house, a custom observed by St. Andrew's church every year since Bishop Gillespie was rector of the parish here. A Christmas service was held and appropriate remarks made by Rev. Frederic Pitts.

The tree was a large one, well lighted with candles, and the gifts consisted of aprons, candy and peanuts for the women, and handkerchiefs, tobacco and pipes, candy and peanuts for the men. All were not present to see the tree, but as the list of names was read off each received a present in person or the gifts were laid aside to be carried to them. All In the county house are adults except a six months' old baby boy. When his name was read out, there being nothing to denote his age, a pipe and tobacco were laid aside for him.

The county house was a model of neatness and cleanliness and Mr. and Mrs. Shankland are to be congratulated upon the fine condition in which they keep it. They seem also to be most highly thought of by the inmates, a fact which redounds much to their credit.
