Verdict Of $500 For Mrs. Newman

The jury in the case of Mattie Newman vs. the city of Ann Arbor were sent to the jury room at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. They were out only an hour and a half when they came into court and brought in a verdict of $500 damages in favor of the plaintiff. It s understood the first ballot they took was 8 to 4 for cause. Then when a ballot was taken as to damages it ranged from $100 to $1,000. The verdict was probably a compromise between the different opinions. As to whether the case will be appealed by the city is not yet determined.
