William F. Armstrong, the former Ann Arbor mail carrier, arrested last summer for embezzling mails, was brought before Judge Swan in the United States court in Detroit Monday. 'He was severely reprimanded and allowed to go on suspended sentence. A number of petitions for clemency were presented to the judge and Col. Dean informed the court that Armstrong is now in his employ and he will see that he does not offend again.

Judge Swan said that if he ever heard of Armstrong drinking again he would be brought back and sentenced.

Clyde K. Rhead of Ann Arbor was sentenced to pay a fine of $60 by Judge Swin of the United State district court in Detroit Monday mornIng for forging the name of an Ann Arbor woman to a postoffice money order which he picked up from the floor of the boarding house conducted by bis wife.

Rhead, who is 24 years of age gave as his reason for the crime that he was hungry. From the address of Rhead'a attorney to the court this morning it developed that the reason that Rhead was suffering from hunger was that he had had a little difficulty will his wife and she had made him get out. Rheads previous good conduct and age saved him from the sentence of one year at hard labor in addition to the fine.
