Although the city has been growing, it is noticeable that there has been a steady decrease annually during the past five years.
The big drop from 1888 to 1889 and the failure to return to the old figures since that time is attributed to a change in the system of buying wood, the city now having its own wood pile instead of buying from the various dealers.
