Switchboard at Stockbridge was Burned Up

 

THERE IS NO INSURANCE

 

A split in the Cigar Manufacturing Firm of Weick & Hoefter

 

Chelsea, Mich., Jan. 11, 1901.—The fire at Stockbridge early yesterday morning proved to be a rather serious one for the Rural Telephone Co., of Waterloo. Their loss will be about $250 with no insurance. The company lost their switchboard and all the supplies that they had on hand in the office. Milliner Bros., whose furniture store was burned were the operators.

 

The cigar manufacturing firm of Weick & Hoefler, of this place, has been dissolved. G. Weick will continue the business of the firm at the old place and Mr. Hoefler will start a new cigar shop.

 

Elmer Grant, of this village, and several others who have been fishing at Blind lake, near Unadilla, have in the few days they nave been out caught about 200 pounds of fish, and among the lot it is claimed they caught one black bass that weighed 6 3/4 pounds.

 

F. Staffan & Son have the ice houses at Cavanaugh lake well along towards completion and have a large number of men and teams at work on Pierce's lake cutting ice and drawing it to their icehouses in this village.

 

There will be a dance in the hall at Lima Expert on Friday evening, Jan. 17. given under the auspices of the Lima Expert Dancing club.

 

Mr. Carmody, matter of the Ypsilanti Grange, will install the newly elected officers of the North Lake Grange at their hall on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at which time the members of the Grange expect to serve a supper.

 

The W. R. C. of this place elected the following officers at their annual meeting: President, Addie Green; senior vice president, Roxie Wilkinson; junior vice president, Julia Crowell; chaplain, Mary Boyd; treasurer, Mary VanTyne; secretary, Kittie Wurster; conductor, Mary Winans; assistant conductor, Carrie Palmer; guard, Lila Campbell; assistant guard, Emma Leach.

 

The Congregational Sunday school has elected the following officers for this year: Superintendent, J. George Webster: assistant superintendent, Marie Bacon; secretary and treasurer, Wirt McLaren; chorister, Gladys Mapes; assistant. chorister, Martha Shaver: librarian, Martha Shaver, Bertha Schumacher, Ruth Bartch and Mabel Bacon.

 

The Congregational church and society held its annual meeting Monday evening and elected the following officers: Trustees, H. S. Holmes and Thos. Sears; clerk, George J. Crowell. The society is out of debt and has money in the treasury.

 

The Lima and Vicinity Farmers' club elected the following officers at the annual meeting: President, A. J. Easton; first vice president, Thos. Smith; second vice president, Mrs. J. Smith; third vice president, Mrs. Geo. W. Parker; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Wilbur McLaren. The next meeting of the club will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Smith, of Scio, Jan. 14, subject for discussion. "Resolved, That farmers should organize as well as other classes.
