NEWS NOTES FROM

MANCHESTER

     Manchester, Mich., Jan. 16.- The

Southern Washtenaw Farmers' Mutual

Fire Insurance Co. have a total mem-

bership of 354 and carry risks amount-

ng to $863,290. There was no assess-

ment last year and the total disburse-

ments of the company were $332.80, of

which $245 was paid for losses.

     Mr. and Mrs. James Martin left for

Los Angeles, Cal., today, where they

may spend the winter.

     Twins were born to Mr. and Mrs.

Henry Steinegeweg, Jan. 13, a boy and

a girl.

     Mrs. Stegemeier has sold Her resi-

dence to Will Holt.

     The Arbeiter Verein are contemplat-

ing improving their hall considerably.

     Luther Benedict, of Manchester

town, recently a shot white owl whose

wings spread five feet three inches.

It is being mounted by Ed. Kief.

     It is said that there was a cock fight

hereabouts Monday night.

     The Methodist social yesterday netted

$8.69.

     The Union Savings bank have added

$1,000 to their surplus fund.

     The People's bank has elected the

following directors: B. G. Lovejoy, A.

F. Freeman, Fred Steinkohl, Frank

Spafard, Fred Kensler, E. M. Conklin,

Fred Spafard, ,T. A. Lowery and O. L.

Torrey. Frank Spafard was re-elected

president and C. W. Case cashier.

     Miss Frances Uhl, of Freedom, and

John Staeb, of Clinton, were married

today at St. Mary's church in this vil-

lage by the Rev. Fr. McGlaughlin.
