Divides First Prize With a Man Named Smith - Of Belfontaine, Canada
A dispatch from the Detroit Free Press to this paper yesterday states that Miss Lois Smith of E. Liberty st. in this city, was a lucky guesser on the Canadian census contest.
She guessed 5,369,664, but W.T. Smith, of Bellefontaine, Canada, guessed the same number and the prize of $5,000 will be divided between them.
Miss Smith will get $2,500.
On her other guess she originally placed the figures so that she would have drawn another $1,000, but after writing the guess she changed one figure so that she lost this.
But she was lucky to get the $2,500.
The correct number was 5,369,666.
