THIS BOY NEEDS A PINE SHINGLE

APPLIED AT PLACE WHERE IT WILL DO MOST GOOD

Abuses little girls and when rebuked he pulled a revolver on a man.

The citizens of Ann Arbor will hardly believe that there are boys of tender age growing up in the city who some day may figure in railroad hold ups and crimes of such a nature. As an evidence of what may be expected an example was shown some days ago. A boy between 8 and 9 years of age was down at the skating rink. He is reported to have been of good family. He amused himself by snowballing little girls. When requested to stop, although threatened with expulsion, he continued. One of the snowballs hit a little girl in the ear, which made her cry. Thereupon the proprietor of the rink took the boy by the coat collar and forced him to leave the rink. As soon as he was outside the boy drew a revolver and told the man to get inside or he would shoot him, at the same time pointing the revolver at the man. The former immediately jumped for the boy and took the revolver away from him and boxed the boy's ears. The boy went home and told his mother a great story of how he had been maltreated. She called up the proprietor by telephone and asked why he had abused her son. He requested the mother to come to the rink and he would explain the matter to her. She did so, and when she heard the proprietor's story and saw the revolver she burst into tears. She said the boy had stolen the revolver from his uncle. The revolver happened to be unloaded, but the boy displayed his nerve just the same. It is sad to contemplate what the future of that boy may be. If his mother does not use the old-fashioned means of discipline, he may some day cause his mother much sorrow.
