Austin Easton, a Pioneer of Lima, Died at His Home Yesterday

Chelsea, Mich., Jan. 24. - Austin Easton, a pioneer resident of Lima, died in that township yesterday.

Frank Leach shipped three carloads of fat stock to the Detroit markets yesterday, consisting of one car each of hogs, sheep and cattle.

The most contemptible of all creatures on the face of the globe - the wood thief - seems to be getting in his work on the neighbors' fuelpiles in Chelsea of late.

Geo. H. Foster & Co., in less than one year that they have been in business, have sold and erected 25 windmills.

The Chelsea market today is as follows: Wheat, 83 cents; rye, 60 cents; oats, 44 to 45 cents; corn in the ear, 29 cents; barley, $1.15 per cwt.; beans, $1 to $1.25 for 60 pounds; clover  seed, $5; popcorn, 60 cents; potatoes, 60 cents; eggs, 20 cents; butter, 15 cents; beef, 2 to 4 1/2 cents; veal calves, 5 to 5 1/2 cents; hogs, 5.9 cents; sheep, 2 to 3 cents; lambs, 3 to 4 cents; chickens, 7 cents; fowls, 6 cents; turkeys, 8 cents.

The German Workingmen's society held their annual meeting Monday evening. The society now numbers 102 members, and has a neat sum in the treasury. The following officers were elected: Chas. Kaercher, pres.; Jacob Hepfer, vice pres.; Israel  Vogel, cor. and rec. sec'y; Chas. Neuberger, treas.; Michael Merkle, Jacob Schumacher, Theo. Wedemeyer, trustees; Robert Schwikerath, sec'y sick com.; Fred Wolff, banner carrier; Geo. W. Palmer, physician.

Chelsea was well represented at the boxing contest in Jackson a few days ago and some of our citizens are having a great deal of fun with some of the sports who were present.

Dan Shell has men at work on a bowling alley which he will ship to one of the popular summer resorts and run the coming summer.

Rev. C.D. Jones, pastor of the Congregational church, has announced to his congregation that July 1 he will resign, as he intends to attend Oberlin college for a few years.

The Junior Endeavor society of the Congregational church are making arrangements for a valentine entertainment Feb. 14.
