BARN WITH 32 CATTLE AND 4 HORSES BURNED TUESDAY
The Jacob Rauschenberger barn, which is located near Horseshoe lake, Northfield township burned Tuesday night between 12 and 1 o'clock.
A small saw-mill, which was in the rear of the barn, also burned. In fact it is thought that the fire originated from the engine in this sawmill, as the blaze seemed to some from this direction.
It was impossible to save anything as the fire was under such headway when discovered that efforts were vain.
In the flames there perished 32 head of cattle, four horses and some sheep. Besides this, all his hay and grain and farm implements were destroyed.
The total loss is estimated to be $4,500. Mr. Rauschenberger carried a policy of $4,000 in the German Mutual Fire Insurance company.
