U. OF M. ALUMNUS MADE SECRETARY

     Lansing, Mich., March 27. - The state board of agriculture yesterday afternoon selected as successor to Secretary A. G. Bird, resigned, A. M. Brown of Schoolcraft.
     Addision M. Brown, in legislature of 1899, was a senator from the ninth district, comprosing the counties of Kalamazoo an Calhoun. He was born at Schoolcraft in 1859. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan, class of '83. From the university he went to the farms owned by his father, and became manager of that property. 
     He has given considerable attention to educational matters, and for eight years has been a member of the Schoolcraft board of education. He has been a justice of the peace and a village president.
     Mr. Brown will take up his duties June 1. Gov. Bliss did not attend the meeting, but it is believed Mr. Brown's appointment was favored by him.
