The Annual Meeting of the W.C.T.U. Held.
-----
The annual meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Y. W. C. A. rooms over the post-office Thursday afternoon. The program consisted of devotional exercises conducted by the president, Dr. Mary Wood-Allen, a report of the work of the past year by the recording secretary, Mrs. Densmore; the report of the corresponding secretary, Mrs. Warner; the report of the treasurer, Mrs. Mitchell; and reports from the superintendents of departments as follows: Purity, Mrs. Hawley; Press, Mrs. Densmore; Scientific Instruction, Mrs. Williams; Work Among Colored People, Mrs. Lee; Railroad Work, MRs. Snauble; Literature in Public Places, Mrs. Wilson. In all of theses departments good work has been done. The Union has also accomplished something in the department of Flower Mission, W. C. T. U. Institutes, and School Savings Banks; the superintendents of these departments not being present a partial report was given by other ladies. The annual address of the president followed. Dr. Wood-Allen spoke with her usual grace and charm of what had been accomplished by the W. C. T. U. in times past and of what might be accomplished if only more women were interested in our lines of work and if the women who are interested had more time to bestow upon it, and suggested that the Union take up more of the woman's club methods and thus interest those who are reluctant about engaging in reform work.
Dr. Wood-Allen had been urged to accept the office of president again, but having served two years she positively refused to accept it again.
The election of officers resulted as follows:
President-- Mrs. Clara C. Williams
Recording Secretary-- Mrs. Ada K. Densmore
Corresponding Secretary-- Mrs. Addie Warner
Treasurer-- Mrs. Mitchell
The superintendents of departments will be elected at the next meeting.
At the close of the program refreshments were served and a social hour enjoyed.
