PHILANTHROPIC OBJECT OF THE ORGANIZATION

Three New Departments Have Been Added for Work in the Hospitals

The Hospital Circle of King's Daughters started out to help those who had to go to the University hospital for treatment and were unable to pay their own way. Some times the money was given as a loan, other times out and out. In this way many people have become self-supporting who otherwise would have been public charges. During the last two years three new departments have been added to the work.

Several cases arose where a person would be ill in his own home who was able to have a doctor but not a nurse. In such cases the attentions of a nurse an hour or so in the morning in the evening would relieve both the patient and the family. Under the direction of Mrs. H. J. Brown a good deal of this work has been done.

For over a year twice a month an entertainment has been given at the hospital for the convalescent patients. This year the work of this department is under the charge of Miss Georgia Goodrich. Last month the first entertainment consisted of recitations by Miss Josie Davidson and piano selections by John D. Davis. The second evening the patients enjoyed a dumbbell drill and fancy dances by Miss Lola Kinkurn and Miss Edith Taylor, several beautiful songs by Mrs. Geo. Hastreiter and recitations by Mr. Pike.

Under the direction of Mrs. Jordon the children's work is being carried on. Three afternoons in the week the children are either given instruction, read to or amused. The past month they have been learning to make baskets. Mrs. Strauss kindly furnished material and directions for making them.

This outline of the work of the King's Daughters will be of interest to all who are of a philanthropic turn of mind. Persons who are sufficiently interested to give financial aid can address the treasurer, Mrs. Louis P. Hall, 1502 Hill street.
