Friday evening the orators of the High school met in their annual oratorical contest. The first honor and a check for $25, presented by J. E. Beal, was won by Harry Pearce of Dixboro. The second honor went to J. N. Clark of Ann Arbor. The other speakers were G. C. Cisel, Katharine O'Mara, James Parry and H. D. Chandler. The young people acquitted themselves very creditably, and the marking showed that the judges regarded the orators as of nearly the same rank.

The presiding officer was J. E. Beal; the judges on thought were B. A. Finney, Shirley Smith, and Judge Newkirk; and the judges on delivery were L. B. Lee of Chicago, W. K. Childs and Hugh Brown.
