MANCHESTER OFFICERS

Were All Confirmed by the Council--Marriage Question was Discussed

Manchester, Mich., April 16.-Eldred Robbins, of the U. of M., is the guest of Raynor Haeussler.

Mrs. C. F. Yocum and her trimmer, Miss Cammell, went to Adrian Tuesday afternoon to buy goods.

George Scheffler, of Jackson, is visiting at Chas. Gumpper's.

John Dodds, of Goodland, Kans., arrived in town Tuesday to visit his wife who has been spending the winter with her father, Col. E.D. Fenn, of Bridgewater.

Chas. Robinson is in Dundee this week on business.

Miss Clara Goodrich, who has been with Mrs. Rundell for about two weeks, returned to her home in Lansing, Tuesday.

J. H. Kingsley went to Detroit Monday to be gone a few days.

The Saturday club will meet with Mrs. Lavina Conklin.

The Alpha Sigma held an extra meeting Monday evening which was very well attended. The proceeds were $3.60, which will be used towards purchasing apparatus for the laboratory. Both the literary and musical program was very good. The debate, "Resolved, that the proposal of marriage should be sanctioned by woman," was well delivered, Alvin Kellam and Lee Acherson being on the affirmative and Carrie Stegmiller and Bessie Wisner on the negative. The judges, Mrs. Rundell, Raynor Haeussler and Jennie Palmer, decided in favor of the negative.

F. M. Freeman went to Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti on business Tuesday.

Mrs. Catherine Lehn went to Tecumseh Monday to visit her daughter, Mrs. Lynn Hardenburgh.

Mrs. Louis KIein, of Chelsea, who has been here for the past month caring for her mother, Mrs. Margaret Haag, returned to her home Tuesday. Mrs. Haag is considerably better.

Mrs. George Deatle sprained her ankle Monday evening, but is getting along nicely.

Mr. and Mrs. Mat Wurster are moving into their new home on City road.

Fred Gaige and son, Dick, of Ann Arbor, are spending the week at James Lamb's, west of town.

Mr. and Mrs. George Merriman, who have been visiting their daughter, Mrs. John Thomas, in Toledo, returned home Tuesday.

The seniors sent their first message by wireless telegraphy Tuesday morning. The outfit is in fine order and works accurately. The credit is due to Prof. Essery, who has spent considerable time in getting the apparatus in working order.

Mrs. J. E. Easton, of Central Lake, Mich., is visiting her sister, Mrs. O. A. Waite, and brother, Edwin Blythe. This is the first visit Mrs. Easton has made here in 20 years.

Raynor Haeussler and Eldred Robbins drove to Tecumseh Tuesday afternoon.

Walter Merritt, of Alma, spent Tuesday and Wednesday with his niece, Mrs. F. A. Rundell.

At the regular annual meeting of the common council, Monday evening, the following appointments for offices, made by Pres. Root, were confirmed: Street commissioner, Jacob Zimmerman; night watchman, Robert Hildinger; marshal, George Nisle; health officer, Dr. B. A. Tracy; chief of fire department, Edwin S. Blythe; board of review, Chas. J. Lewis and M. B. Wallace; special assessors, James Kelly and Fred Kensler; fire wardens, Mat D. Blosser and Jacob Blum.
