Tom M'Namara Visits Mr. Mann

As usual, Tom McNamara, of Chelsea, is the first past the post this year in the matter of paying his saloon license.  He loomed up at the county treasurer's office last Saturday afternoon and after depositing the necessary five hundred simoleons left the document that entitles him to dispense the amber fluid, and liquids of other colors, to the thirsty citizens of Chelsea for another year to come.

The law does not require that saloon licenses be paid before May 1, but McNamara takes delight in being ahead of time, in getting there before the other fellow.  This feature of McNamara's make-up is said to have been acquired by his close relationship to the race track and his eagerness to pick the pony that will be first under the wire, especially when the "bookie" has got McNamara's money on that particular horse. And those who know say that McNamara seldom gets left any more than he does when it comes to him being the first to settle up with the county for the privilege of runnin a Chelsea liquor emporium.
