Left by John G. English Who Died Last January

WAS HER FOSTER FATHER

An Interesting Suit in Which a Number of Manchester People Are Involved

The defendants in the case of Stella May Bovins, of Manchester, who has commenced suit to recover a share of the property left by her deceased foster father, have filed their appearance with the county clerk and the trial of the suit will probably take place at the May term of court.

The history of the case goes back to September, 1864, when the complainant was born, the daughter of Thomas Bunker, of Manchester. Shortly after birth her mother died and at the age of six months her father agreed to her adoption by John G. English, one of the wealthiest farmers in or about Manchester. She grew up to womanhood believing that Mr. and Mrs. English were her natural parents. But one day Mrs. English told her of her mother's death and how she had come into the English home. She continued to live with the English family and says that Mr. English deeded her thirty-six acres of his land and other property before he died.

After the death of Mrs. English, Mr. English married Margaret B. Zeigler, in November, 1897. In January, 1902, Mr. English died.

It was about this time that the trouble seems to have commenced between Mrs. Bovins and the English family, Mrs. Bovins apparently believing that she is to be cut out of the share of the property left her by Mr. English, whose property when he died was valued at over $20,000.

Mrs. Bovins, who was adopted under the name of Stella May English, became married to George Bovins, of Manchester, in September, 1892, hence the name under which she brings her suit.

The defendants in the case are Margaret English, Susan Lowe, Ellen Fullerton, Ann Green, Sarah Watkins, Eliza Palmer and Benjamin G. English.
