Miss Dickinson and Her Companion Alford Yale

HAVE A NARROW ESCAPE

But for the Young Woman's Presence of Mind She Might Now be Beyond Land of the Living

Miss Margaret N. Dickenson and Alford Yale had a narrow escape f-rom drowning, on Saturday afternoon, while canoeing on the river. They had rowed up the river as far as the water works when one of them laughingly dared the other to attempt to shoot the rapids which are just a little distance up the river. They attempted the feat and in one of the most treacherous places the canoe was overturned and the occupants thrown into the water.

The water at this point is comparatively shallow but the current is so strong that it swept the couple down into deeper water. Had it not been for the fact that Miss Dickenson is a very brave young woman and kept her presence of mind admirably, the list of victims of the Huron, which is already a long one, might have had two more names added to it.

Mr. Yale is an athletic fellow and a good swimmer, and he was able to save both his own and Miss Dickenson's life.

After righting the canoe the couple paddled back to the boat house, where they telephoned for a carriage and arrived at home no worse off for their experience other than a bad fright and having their clothes ruined.

Miss Dickenson is a member of the '04 law class and Mr. Yale is an '04 medic.
