Miss Emily N. Smith, of 1324 Pontiac street, has always prided herself on her choice collection of fowls, which by the way are said to be among the most robust lot of birds in the city. This probably had something to do with the sudden disappearance of twenty of them from their accustomed haunt at Miss Smith's residence on Saturday morning last.

On Friday night the twenty missing birds had gone to roost as all good fowls do. On Saturday morning they were no where to be seen. They had disappeared as completely as though the earth had swallowed them up.

That they were stolen is evident from the fact that when Miss Smith went to her chicken coop on Saturday morning it had been broken open, showing conclusively that the chickens had not wandered away of their own volition.
