A 10-year old lad, whose christian name is "Roy" narrowly escaped drowning near the University boat house at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon. The boy, accompanied by a number of youths about the same age as himself, were playing on the bank of the mill pond when young Roy fell into the water. He screamed lustily for help. Allie Lawson, who lives at Catherine and State streets, Harold Stevens of 313 N. State street and Maurice Van Benschoten of 210 N. State street, who were in the vicinity, ran to the boy's aid and after some difficulty succeeded in rescuing him from the water. A young girl and two students also assisted in the rescue.

When the youth was fished out of the water he refused to give his surname, saying that he had no other name but "Roy." Those who saw the affair say the little fellow had a narrow escape from drowning.
