Manchester, April 25 -- Mrs. John Tracy will entertain the Saturday club this week. 

 

Wm. Holt has purchased a chainless bicycle. 

 

The Chelsea mason have accepted the invitation given by the Manchester lodge to come here on Monday the 28th and confer the third degree. 

 

Miss Emma Nisle went to Jackson last Thursday morning to visit friends a few days. 

 

A new awning has been put up in front of the post office. 

 

A new separator has been placed in the creamery to take care of the large amount of milk which is steadily increasing. 

 

Mrs. S. M. Hall, of Ypsilanti, is visiting [her] sister, Mrs. Martha Denison. Mr. Hall accompanied her here Wednesday but returned the same day. 

 

Cards are out for a shirt-waist party given by some of the young ladies of the town. Whitmire's orchestra of Ypsilanti, who have given excellent satisfaction here, will furnish the music.

 

Charles Kulenkamp has purchased the Jerry Dealy farm north of the village. 

 

Mrs. [Lynn] Hardenburgh and little daughter returned to Tecumseh yesterday. 

 

Dr. C. S. Chadwich, of Grass Lake, has been unfortunate in having his house and contents destroyed by fire. Loss about $3,000; only partially covered by insurance. Dr. Chadwick is well known here and has the sympathy of his many friends. 

 

Chas. Burtless is suffering from a severe attack of quinsy. 

 

Elmer Raymond, who recently moved here from Sharon, is seriously ill. 

 

Mrs. Caroline Esch returned last Thursday from a visit with her daughter in Detroit.

Manchester, Mich., April 26. -- Louis Lonier went to Chicago on business Thursday. 

 

Mrs. F. A. Rundell went to Tecumseh Friday to order goods from a mililnery agent. 

 

J. H. Kingsley was in Toledo on business Friday and Saturday. 

 

Miss Louise Schmid accompanied Mrs. Lynn Hardenburgh to Tecumseh Friday and remained over Sunday. 

 

Rev. C. T. Allen delivered an intensely interesting and instructive lecture on "Grant's Campaign of Vicksburg and the Wilderness" Thursday evening at the M. E. church. It was for the benefit of the Ladies' Aid society and the church was well filled. 

 

Miss Bertha Lehn went to Toledo Saturday to spend a week or two. From there she will go to Detroit to visit Mrs. A. M. Hess, formerly Miss Hulda Koch of this place. 

 

John J. Machen, of Detroit, representing the Home Life Insurance Co., was in town Friday and Saturday. 

 

Miss Nina Rundell spent Sunday with relatives in Tecumseh. 

 

Arthur Freeman was in Jackson on business Thursday. 

 

Fred Stockinger, who is working for the Olds Motor works in Detroit, is visiting his parents southwest of town. 

 

Mesdames Widmayer and Mahrle were in JAckson Thursdays.

 

Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Kimball, of Clinton, were in town Thursday. 

 

The Ladies' Military Band, of Waterloo, Ind., will give an entertainment Thursday, May 8, at Arbeiter Hall, for the benefit of the L. O. T. M. They are sent out by the Hillsdale College Entertainment Bureau and are recommended very highly. 

 

Friday being Arbor Day, appropriate exercises were held in the high school. An invitation was extended to the grammar and intermediate departments and the teachers. After the exercises a catalpa tree was planted on the west lawn in memory of McKinley.
