Copeland A Candidate

The Mayor Announces Himself for Congress

ASSURANCE RECEIVED

From Different Voting Precincts of the County Has Induced Him to Enter the Race He Says:

Mayor Royal S. Copeland has shied his castor into the ring as a candidate for the republican nomination for congress.

To the Argus' question Friday if he had announced his candidacy he replied: "Yes, I have. I have had such assurances from every voting precinct in the county that I have concluded to make the race and from this time on I shall make every legitimate effort to secure the nomination."

The mayor felt confident from the assurances that he has received that he can secure the backing of his home county, and from the number of candidates outside it seems to be everybody's race.

Washtenaw thus has two full-fledged candidates in W. W. Wedemeyer and Mayor Copeland, and a battle royal may be looked for in the county convention, which although it has not yet been called will be probably be about May 21.
