CHANCES OF WEDEMEYER

As Good as Any Candidate in the Field

A WARM FIGHT

It Is Being Put Up in Wayne County Between bacon and Smith Partisans

All the delegates for the republican convention are now selected, excepting in Wayne county, where a hot fight is being put up between the partisans of Bacon and Smith. Bacon will undoubtedly carry this delegation.

The Monroe delegation was elected yesterday. Congressman Smith's friends claim 11 of this delegation, giving Bacon 3 and Townsend 2. On the other hand Bacon's campaign manager divides the delegation as follows: Bacon 8, Smith 6, Townsend 2. On the first ballot the county will probably vote for Burton Parker, dividing among the other candidates after the first ballot. This would make the first ballot at Adrian stand.

Smith ..................................... 27

Townsend .............................. 26

Wedemeyer ........................... 22

Parker .................................... 16

Bacon .................................... 14

Necessary for choice ............. 53

The second ballot wonld stand, if Smith's partisan's figures in Monroe are correct:

Smith ..................................... 38

Townsend .............................. 28

Wedemeyer ........................... 22

Bacon .................................... 17

If Bacon's figures on Monroe are correct it wonld stand:

Smith ..................................... 33

Townsend .............................. 28

Wedemeyer ........................... 22

Bacon .................................... 22

Mr. Wedemeyer has made no fight for delegates outslde of Washtenaw. It has apparently been his aim not to interfere with the desires, as to delegates, of the favorite sons of the various counties. Hence it is apparently in his interest that the fight be a long drawn out one. Holding his own county Intact and without having antagonized the delegates elected in the counties and being favorably known all over tho district, he ought to be in a position to fall heir to the strength of any candidate who may fall out. Holding Washtenaw intact. Mr. Wedemeyer's chances should be pood as any one's.
