Monday afternoon, while Mrs. Mattie Newman, proprietress of Newman house, was in the dining room of the hotel, someone entered her apartments and carried away a gold watch, $15 in money and two valuable gold rings.

The drawer from which the property was taken was opened with a key, evidently procured by the thief for the purpose, as Mrs. Newman had her own key to the drower with her when she left the room. The door of the latter was unlocked, so that the thief easily effected his entrance.

The police department were notified of the robbery, but no clue was obtainable to the perpetrators, although it is thought by Mrs. Newman that the thief was a person who was well acquainted with the place where she kept her valuables and had made plans in advance for committing the crime.
