Chas. Alber Again Sued by a Woman
ELIZABETH WHITNEY
Says the Gay Romeo Promised to Marry Her But Has Broken His Word

Because of his too ardent attentions to an Ann Arbor woman Charles Alber, the janitor at the mechanical and engineering building of the University, is again the defendant in a breach of promise suit for $10,000 begun Tuesday by Mrs. Elizabeth Whitney, of 613 South Fifth Avenue.

It is only a few weeks ago that Alber delivered over $75 to Miss Elizabeth Wylie, of 1206 Broadway, in the circuit court, which resulted in the breach of promise suit begun against him by Miss Wylie being dismissed.

The present complainant is a woman about 50 years old. She has two grown up sons and has lived in this city for over eighteen years. Her husband, she says, left her many years ago and she does not know whether he is alive or dead.

"Alber has been keeping company with me for the last eight years," said Mrs. Whitney, Tuesday: "I have been engaged to marry him and it's only last Friday night that he promised he would shortly make me his wife. Now he is trying to get out of his promise but I'm not going to be fooled by him any longer. I have treated him like a mother but he has not appreciated me."

"Does Alber know that you are about to commence this suit?" was asked.

"Indeed he does," replied Mrs. Whitney defiantly. "I called at his boarding house at 517 Ann Street early this morning and told him I was going to have him arrested."

"What did he say?"

"He told me to go and have him arrested. He said he didn't care what I did."

Mrs. Whitney further said that she knew that Alber had been visiting Miss Wylie while he had been paying his attentions to her and that she had heard that he intended to marry Miss Wylie on June 12.

"I knew there was something up," Mrs. Whitney knowingly went on. "Last week he took a necktie and some handkerchiefs from my place which Miss Wylie had given him. He told me he was going to Detroit that evening but that very night my son saw him in a store downtown. When he saw my son, he skipped out the back way. He needn't think though that he can fool me."

Mrs. Whitney is a woman bordering on fifty years of age. She is of the blonde type and although not as attractive in appearance or vivacious in manner as Miss Wylie, is nevertheless quite a comely woman. She is a much larger woman than Miss Wylie and really looks old and matronly enough to be Alber's mother.

The well known law firm of Cavanaugh & Wedemeyer have been retained by Mrs. Whitney in her suit.
