Much Talked Route Now Open Between Detroit and Buffalo.

Detroit, Mich., June 5. - A maritime event of great interest to Michigan people was accomplished when the beautiful steamer Eastern States, of the new Detroit and Buffalo line, returned from her initial trip Wednesday. The Eastern States is unquestionably the largest, speediest and most elegant steamer on fresh water, and with the companion ship Western States, soon to be launched, will maintain daily service over the water route from Detroit to Buffalo that for many years has been abandoned. An important object of the enterprise is to establish a link in travel between the east and west, with both economy and pleasure as drawing cards.

The mayor and prominent citizens of Detroit joined in the initial trip, while at Buffalo, where the big boat nearly filled the river, a most enthusiastic reception was accorded. The remarkable record of schedule time on an inaugural trip speaks volumes for the construction of the new boat.
