A very serious accident was narrowly averted Sunday afternoon, when the horse driven by Edward Staebler became frightened by an automobile in which Mr. Staebler's father was riding.

Mr. Staebler was driving out Liberty street and did not notice the automobile, which was going out Ashley street. At the corner, when at a distance of several feet from each other, the horse became frightened by the vehicle and started to run away. Mrs. Staebler was so frightened that she jumped to the ground. Aside from receiving a wound on her knee and being badly frightened, she escaped injury. The horse was immediately controlled by Mr. Staebler.
