STOLE HIS EMPLOYER'S MONEY

Claude Fox, a Negro, is Accused of Larceny

NEWSDEALER MEYER

He is Complainant Against Fox Who Robbed Him Yesterday and Skipped to Ypsilanti

Claude Fox, a former employe of Paul C. Meyer, the newsdealer, whose store is on William street, is languishing in the county jail because he became too free with his employer's property Friday afternoon.

Fox, who is a negro, has been attending to the bootblack stand at the Meyer store for some time. Friday afternoon, when Mr. Meyer was absent, Fox, it is alleged, went to the cash drawer in the store and took a wallet containing $3 in money, two checks for $26, and Mr. Meyer's contracts with the newspapers that he handles. After taking the property Fox hied himself off to Ypsilanti in a buggy which he hired from a local liveryman. On his way to Ypsilanti, Fox, it seems, destroyed the checks and other papers which the wallet contained.

When Mr. Meyer returned to the store and found the wallet and the negro had disappeared, he notified the police department. Officer Collins went in pursuit of Fox and arrested him in Ypsilanti. At first Fox denied that he had taken the property, but the wallet was found in his pocket and he was brought here and locked up.

Saturday he was held by Justice Doty to the circuit court for trial in $500 bail.
