BOTANICAL GARDEN IS IN PROSPECT
FELCH PARK TO BE CONVERTED INTO AN ATTRACTIVE SPOT
The Place Will be Stocked With Different Species of Plants and a Pond Will be a Feature
The natural scenery of the city of Ann Arbor, which is appropriately called the Athens of the West, is soon to have its beauty enhanced by a fine botanical garden which will without doubt be one of the most beautiful parks in the state.
Since the civic improvement society was organized several weeks ago, its promoters have not been idle. They have undertaken a plan which to many would seem hard to be realized, but by their tireless labor and energetic work, their efforts seem about to be crowned with great success.
The plan is to convert Felch park, which the city now owns, and the land familiarly known as the "cat-hole" into a botanical garden. The common council will probably make arrangements at their meeting Monday night to purchase the land surrounding the "Cat-hole" which altogether will make a twelve-acre plot.
When purchased, the botanical department of the University will take charge of the property. It will be stocked with different species of plants that can be grown in this climate. A large artificial pond will be made in the center of the garden and marine plants will be grown.
