BREEZY TOPICS AT WHITMORE LAKE

Whitmore Lake, Mich., June 16--Fred Rice has removed his family from Hamburg to this place and is comfortably settled in the Duncan house. Mr. Rice is an expert painter and decorator and displayed sound judgment in coming to our wideawake town to ply his vocation.

The Maccabees will have a Basket social at the residence of Henry King on Saturday night. Everybody is invited and all kinds of enjoyment are promised.

Ed Burke had a barn raising today, Jay G. Pray, contractor, placed Frank Munger in charge of construction and the building went up without amistake. This gives Mr. Burke a barn 64 feet by 30 with a stone basement under it 8 feet high. Owing to the heavy rains Mr. Burke had no trouble in securing plenty of help among the farmers and in four hours the building was up.

On Friday evening there will be a strawberry social at the residence of John Wessinger for the benefit of the M. E. church and as strawberries are only 5 cents per quart you will all get heaping big dishes.

The wheat crop all through Northfield promises a 20 bushel to the acre yield and now the farmers are kicking themselves that they did not plant a larger area of land.

Owing to the heavy rains not more than 10 per cent of the bean crop Is thus far planted.

H. P. Dodge, T. F. Taylor and C. A.. Pray, all general stores, report a good cash trade at least 30 per cent ahead of last year's at this time.

Beans keep rusting into the elevator and the 15 pickers are turning out 175 bushels of hand picked beans daily.

Mrs. Fred Prochnow and Mrs. Thomas Coyle were the guests of Mrs. Edward Burke today.

Samuel Hammel has material on the ground for a fine residence, which he expects Contractor Pray to finish by August 1.
