MUSIC PUPILS ARTISTIC WORK Recital at St. Thomas conservatory Friday

The Skill of the Young Performers Reflects Much Credit on the Work of the Sister

A lengthy recital was given Friday afternoon by the following pupils of St Thomas Conservatory:

Duet, piano, Lizzie Keebler and Anna Allmendinger. A piano solo by Marie Wanzick was followed by some excellent string work on guitars by Cornwell Darrow and Ed. Vandawarker, who played several of the national airs. Solo work on the piano was done very creditably by Lizzie Keebler, Evelyn Hardinghaus, Margaret Kress, Anna Allmendinger, Winifred Orcutt and Irene St. James, all of whom, as well as Marie Wanzick, played without their music. Esther Darrow and Cornwell Darrow played a duet with mandolin and guitar, which was well received. Willie Parker played very well a violin solo, and then the first and second grade boys to about the number of thirty gave a school song that provoked much merriment.

St Thomas juvenile orchestra crowded the stage with their violins mandolins, guitars, etc., and made a very pretty picture while at the same time they discoursed admirable music. Wirt Darrow played a very difficult violin solo accompanied on the piano by Irene St. James. St. Thomas choir boys to the number of about fifty made the large hall ring with a well rendered song. The program, which included seventeen numbers, came to a close with an eight-hand performance on pianos by the Misses Allmendinger, Hardinghaus, Kress and St. James.

The Conservatory closes the season today, when the final recital was given at 2:30 in the parish hall. The year has been one of the most successful in the history of the institution, which is the oldest school of music in the city, and the prospects for next year are better than ever. The performance of yesterday was exceedingly well rendered. The pupils played with a freedom and dash characteristic of those who know their work thoroughly.

The highest praise is certainly due the sisters who have charge of the work, and the many congratulations they received is a proof that their efforts are appreciated. Fr. Kelly states that the Conservatory reopens September 8.
