VERY HOT FIGHT ON DETROIT STREET

An exciting fight occurred on Detroit street in front of Hornung's saloon, Thursday evening of last week at about 7 o'clock. William Rowe, a constable of Ann Arbor town, Earl Day, and a gentleman of color, got into a pretty warm altercation. When Officer O'Mara succeeded in separating the combatants, Day seemed to be decidedly the worse for wear, as his clothing was nearly torn off from him and was badly battered up in general.

Officer O'Mara escorted both men to the county Bastille. Rowe secured bail, but Day was obliged to languish in durance vile until 9 o'clock this morning when both parties were taken before Justice Gibson on the charge of disturbing the peace. Day pleaded guilty and was fined the costs of the case. On account of the fact that he had a wife and two children dependent on his support, Justice Gibson let the man off without any further fine.

Wm. Rowe was released on bail and his case was adjourned for a week.
