George Peavey, a resident of the Fifth ward, was in a considerably excited frame of mind when he appeared n Justice Doty's court Monday an-d demanded! that a warrant be issued for the arrest of George Rooney on the charge of "attempt at indecency" According to Peavey, Rooney was three sheets in the wind Sunday evening, when he called at the Peavey liorne and entering the room of Mies Peavey, who was ill, attempted to kiss her. Judge Doty explained to the enraged cavey that the only chargé that looney could Be arrested on was that of drunkenness. "Can't you make it heavier than hat?" Enquired Peavey. "I don't see how I can," replied justice Doty. "It does not appear from what you have told me that your daughter was assaulted." By this time Peavey 'had grown so excited that he could not restrain himself. Pounding his fist on a desk in :he courtroom, he exclaimed: "The law these days is no d- d good. All it's fit for is the protection of deadbeats. I am not a Iaw-breaker myself, but I declare to G- d I will break he law this time. I will handle this fellow," (referring to Rooney). ïhen Peavey left the court room in a ïurry, still vowing vengeance on Mr. looney.
