MAYOR COPELAND IS CONGRATULATED

_______

The long fight for grade separation is practically over. Mayor Copeland is to be congratulated upon the successful issue. It is the best thing for the safety of the lives and the comfort of many of the inhabitants that has been accomplished in years. The Argus has endeavored to hold up the mayor's hands in the fight. It has fought him on other things, for the Argus wears no man's collar, but when the Argus believes any public official is right, no matter what party elected him, it will be  found standing by him in his position.

The Argus was the first paper to advocate the election of the tracks of the Ann Arbor road. It began that agitation as far back as 1898 or '99. At that time the majority of its readers laughed at the suggestion. Time was not ripe, but when the opportunity was ripe the Argus simply had to re-publish its original arguments.

Mayor Copeland has spent considerable time on the subject. He has the interest of the city and its inhabitants at heart and the Argus congratulates him and the city upon the victory for grade separation.
