Milan, Mich., Oct. 1.-- The reception at the M. E. Church in honor of Rev. and Mrs. H. A. Field was a very enjoyable affair. The members of the society and of other societies turned out in large numbers.

E. Matthews, of Ypsilanti, was in Milan the first of the week.

E. A. Putnam visited the state geologist Saturday, taking a sample of the rock from the gas and oil well, 1,500 feet below the surface. He was quite sanguine over the result.

Mrs. L. McLaughlin is entertaining guests from Petersburg this week.

Dr. and Mrs. Bell have returned from their Detroit trip.

W. F. Stimson has returned from his sojourn at St. Louis, Mo.

Mesdames Marks and Rouse visited Ann Arbor Monday.

Whaley & Co. shipped several hundred bushels of evaporated apples to New Nork on Saturday.

Mrs. R. E. Tripp and family will move to Detroit in a few days.

Mrs. Will Gay is on the sick list.

Mr. and Mrs. R. McLachlin were tendered a surprise party the other evening.

Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Debenham are at home to their friends in their fine residence on Wabash street.

Miss Wane Blackmer entertained guests from Durand last week.

Mrs. Chas. Millage is quite ill.

Mrs. Deland is entertaining guests this week.

Mrs. Mattie Newcomb leaves Thursday for a two weeks' visit in Carlton.
