BILL JUDSON THE GREATEST

That Ever Walked Down the Political Pike

REPUBLICANS PRAISE

Making Haste to Get on the Band Wagon of Their Master, the Washtenaw Boss

The greatest power in Michigan republicanism today is William Judson, Alger’s manager, Bliss’s manager, the power behind the throne, the real governor of Michigan today. At last the republican papers acknowledge him as their master. The Detroit journal, the republican state organ, editorially paid Mr. Judson its compliments last evening under the caption, “Bill Judson the real hero” as follows: “when Columbus said the world was round the world laughed at him, but he proved his assertion. When the honorary William Judson declared that general Alger would be elected United States senator by acclamation, Michigan, and probably general Alger himself, laughed at him, but the ex-sheriff of Washtenaw has proved his assertion.

“The comparison between Columbus and the ex-sheriff may seem odious; but to those who took part in the mutiny on board the Alger political craft against the Judson leadership in Grand Rapids, and who know the hardships of the Judson expedition before he set foot on the soil of realization, the simile is by no means far-fetched. With the leaders of the party from all parts of the state arrayed against him silent bill insisted that resolutions endorsing general Alger should be presented to the convention. He was strenuously opposed by the Alger campaign leaders in the Alger conference; But, aided only by his Lieutenant, W. W. Wedemeyer, he obstinately stood his ground period from 10:00 o'clock at night until 2:00 o'clock in the morning, the great leader from Washtenaw hammered it into Alger followers: ‘we must present endorsement resolutions!’ and he kept it up until the strong voice of opposition became a weak snivel of acquiescence.

“It was due to Mr. Judson’s foresight and persistence that the endorsement resolutions were adopted against most formidable odds and Gen al gore's election by acclamation of his party made a fact in the face of what seemed to have been impossible. All hail to silent bill, the political master from the Wilds of Washtenaw. he was the first to discover whom the people wanted for senator, and to insist that the people have their way. Bill is the real hero of the senatorial campaign.”
