BOARDED A STREET CAR IN FULL MOTION.

And Served Papers in Shadford Case on Hawks Who Was Going Through on Special With-Out Stopping.

Messrs. Hawks & Angus have not succeeded in avoiding service in the Shadford case after all. Deputy Sheriff Fred Gillen succeeded in getting service on Mr. Hawks last week. He did it by risking the safety of his life or limb.

The suit is upon the $10,000 bond signed by Mr. Hawks and Mr. Angus in carrying up the Shadfofd case vs. the D., Y. & A. A. railroad for damages. The law requires service to be upon one of the parties within the county. The parties in a previous attempt to hold service good, swore that they had no agents or employees in the county.

Yesterday, Mr. Hawks came through on a special car from Jackson. It had been given the right of way through the county and was not to stop. Mr. Sawyer, the attorney in the case, had been informed of its leaving Jackson and when it got here Deputy Fred Gillen jumped aboard the car as it swung around the curve at the corner of Huron and Main streets at full speed. The conductor ordered him off, but he wouldn't go and stepping into the car he asked: "Is Mr. Angus here?" Mr. Hawks stepped forward, "I'm Mr. Angus." "Oh, I know you, Mr. Hawks," replied the deputy as he served his papers. The car wouldn't stop and Gillen jumped from it while it was yet in motion.
