Mrs. Van Orden Sues Michigan Central For $2,000.

She Claims Damages From the Overflowing of Her Land in the Flood Last Summer.

Mrs. Louisa VanOrden, who lives near the river bridge at the foot of Fuller street, just inside the city limits, has commenced suit against the Michigan Central railroad for $2,000, for injuries resulting from her land being flooded with water last June. She claims that when the flood came on the railroad, to save their track, cut a ditch through the bank and let the water over upon her property, flooding her house and cellar, and that when the railroad constructed their bridge across the river they built it so narrow as to not permit the water to pass through. The case is the first to appear in the courts as a result of the heavy floods this summer and will be watched with considerable interest. Murray & Storm and John W. Bennett represent Mrs. VanOrden.
