Awarded for Proficiency in Entrance Latin and Greek
The three scholarships, which have been established out of the six contemplated by the late Henry Phillips Jr., of Philadelphia, in his will, have been awarded for this year. Ernst Schmitz, of the Detroit Central High school, Helena Lois Duschak, of the Buffalo Central high school, and Lawrence C. Hull, Jr., of the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, are the successful contestants, and will receive an income of $50 each. These scholarships are awarded to students who are candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Arts and who excel in the Latin and Greek studies required for admission to the University. They were awarded by a committee consisting of the president of the University, the dean of the literary department, the senior professor of Greek and the senior professor of Latin.
