A grand sacred concert, the proceeds of which will go to the poor of the city, will be given in St. Thomas church on the feast of St. Caecilia in November. It is proposed to give Gounod's St. Caecilia mass by the very best vocalists and musicians of the city under the direction of Prof. Renwick. This is after the plan pursued in Paris where every year a grand sacred concert is given in the Church of St. Eustache on the feast of St. Caecilia by the best musicians, whose services are donated to the cause of charity. Generally Gounod's St. Caecilian mass is given. Americans who are in Paris never fail to be present and the Parisians fill the big church. Rehearsals are in progress for the local concert. The printing, music, etc., will be donated so there may not be one penny of expense. The matter is in the hands of a committee from the different churches.

In the civil suit of George Nagel against F. Staebler, of Scio township, before Justice Doty, Saturday some very funny evidence was deduced. The plaintiff alleged that he had a right to damage because of the death of five hogs that became exhausted and died after a long chase by the defendant's dog. The hogs were pleaded for like human beings and the poor dog received any amount of abuse. The court was not convinced that the death of the hogs resulted from the dog's chase and found for the defendant.
