THE DEATH OF MICHAEL SEEREY

Ex-Register of Deeds Died This Morning

After an Eight Month Illness at the Age of Seventy-Five Years.

Michael Seerey, of N. State street, died at his home Saturday morning after eight months illness.

He was one of the best known and most highly respected men in Washtenaw county, where he has resided since 1847. He was born Oct. 10, 1827, in Killrush, County of West Meath, Ireland. He emigrated with his parents, William and Ann (Crosby) Seery, to this county in 1847, and went directly to the farm in Dexter township where he lived for many years.

He attended in his youth the Menuth college and afterward was graduating from theological school of Notre Dame.  He taught school for several years and afterwards engaged in the mercantile business in Dexter. In 1888 he was elected by the democrats of the county to the office of register of deeds, to which office he was re-elected for the second term. He also held the position of deputy county clerk under Mr. Tuite and of deputy register of deeds under Richard Kearns and Mr. Hughes.

He was a man of excellent education and of sterling honesty and held broad, liberal views on all the questions of the day.  He was married to Rosanna Lavey in 1857 and of this union three children were born- Mary C., wife of M.J. Cavanaugh, Alfred W. Seerey, and Rose Angela, wife of Dr. A.R. Nunn, of Manistique.  These children with his wife survive him.

The funeral was held from St. Thomas church on Monday.
