THE SUPERIOR POET BREAKS LOOSE

Superior, Dec. 3. - The progressive pedro campaign has opened in this township in good earnest. The second meeting in the series was held at the residence of John Mulholland on the evening of Nov. 26. About sixty were present and after ten hotly contested games, Mrs. William Mulholland and Mr. Herbert Crippen carried off the first prizes - or in other words:

On the eve before Thanksgiving,

In nineteen hundred two,

We met at John Mulholland's,

A lively, merry crew.

The night was dark as Egypt,

Besides 'twas rather cold,

We were in our youthful spirits -

Don't believe in growing old.

Just about as we were starting

The weather threatened rain,

But we didn't care a hooter,

We got there just the same.

There were sixty persons present,

Just the kind of crowd for fun,

Had Ennis Twist been present

We'd numbered sixty-one.

Frank Lambie, too, was absent,

Why, we do not know.

Some say his girl refused him,

Then of course he wouldn't go.

We played ten games of pedro,

And played with all our might,

On scientific principles,

T'ill twelve o'clock at night.

Of course we had refreshments,

Pie, cake and everything -

That coffee, why, 'twould tickle The palate of a klng.

Charles and Libbie Sweitzer

Sang in perfect harmony.

'Auld Lang Syne" put on the finish

To the Irish jubilee.

This song, as you remember,

Got in some lively work,

Came very near electing

Jimmy Harkins county clerk.
