W.P. SCHENK & CO.'S SHOW WINDOW CAUGHT FIRE
The Chelsea Fire Department Extinguished the Flames but Much Damage Was Done by Smoke.
Chelsea, Mich., Dec. 18. - A lively fire in the show window of W. P. Schenk & Co. at 5 o'clock last evening was put out by good work by the Chelsea fire department. The show window had been nicely trimmed, cotton batten furnishings much of the trimming. In lighting the window by a clerk, some of the cotton batting caught fire and the window was at once in a blaze. The fire was extinguished, but not until it and the smoke had caused about $2,000 damages, covered by insurance.
