STATE TEACHERS SEMI-CENTENNIAL

MANY LOCAL TEACHERS TO ATTEND SAGINAW MEETING

Many Speakers from Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Are On the Program--A Fine List of Outside Speakers

The Michigan State Teachers' association meets in Saginaw, Dec. 29-31, on which occasion it celebrates its semi-centennial. The railroads have granted half fare and it is expected to make this the banner annual meeting.

Supt. H. M. Slauson, Prof. A. S. Whitney, of Ann Arbor, and Prof. S. B. Laird, of Ypsilanti, are three of the six members of the executive committee.

Among the local teachers to take part in the program are the following:

Supt. Austin George, of Ypsilanti, speaks on Monday, Dec. 29, on "Some of the Early Active Members of the Association."

President L. H. Jones, of the Ypsilanti Normal College makes an address on "My Educational Creed" on Wednesday, Dec. 31. He also takes part in the discussion on "Nature Study as a Center for Interrelation of Subjects in Primary Grades."

Prof. Joseph H. Drake, of Ann Arbor, has a paper on "The Educational Value of Examinations from the Standpoint of the University or College," and the discussion on this topic is led by Prof. E. A. Lyman, of Ypsilanti.

Prof. W. W. Beman is chairman of the mathematics section and Dr. Arthur G. Hall, of the University, reads a paper on "To What Extend Should Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry be Taught Together?"

Miss Lucy K. Cole, of Saginaw, formerly of this city, is chairman of the music section and Miss Florence B. Potter, of Ann Arbor, reads a paper on "Child Music in Finland and Scandinavia," which is illustrated.

Among the speakers expected from out of the state are President Schurman, of Cornell, Prof. Geo. E. Vincent, of Chicago University, Supt. O. T. Bright, of Chicago, Miss Sarah Louise Arnold, supervisor of schools of Boston, Mass., Prof. S. H. Clark, of the University of Chicago, and Hon. L. D. Bonebrake, of Columbus, Ohio.

Besides the teachers' meeting, a school board section will be held.

Railroad tickets at one fare will be one sale Dec. 29 and 30, good returning up to and including January 1.

It is hoped to take a large delegation from Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.
