Hereafter people in danger from hydrophobia can be given the Pasteur treatment in Ann Arbor. The large number of cases of hydrophobia among the dogs of Michigan and the consequent large number of people who had to be sent to Chicago or New York for treatment, has caused such a demand for a Pasteur institute in the state that the regents yesterday afternoon authorized one to be established in Ann Arbor. This makes the third institute of the kind in the country, the new institute will be ready to receive patients by April 1. An appropriation of $3,500 a year was made to cover the expenses of the institute. Dr. Thomas Cooley, son of Judge Cooley, was appointed at the head of it, at a salary of $1,600 a year. Research work will be carried on in the laboratory and patients will be cared for at the hospitals.
