HUSTON ELECTED WITH 53 MAYORITY

Only One Republican Alderman Elected

CARRIED FIRST WARD

The Democrats Carried It for Both Mayor and Alderman - Only the Third Ward Went Republican on Alderman

Monday was the quietest election day Ypsilanti has seen in years, there being no important issue at stake. Clifford R. Huston was elected mayor by a majority of 53, though Lister carried the second, third and fourth wards by a fair number of votes. Huston carried the strong republican first ward. In the fifth Huston received 172 to 89 for Lister.

In the districts, Sumner Damon and Elmer McCullough as supervisors had a walkaway, as there was no opposition. In the first, Norris was elected constable by a vote of 35, and in the second Riley doubled Brown's vote of 142.

In the first ward, George Palmer was elected alderman over Fletcher by a vote of 7. Quite a surprise was sprung when it was learned that John B. VanFossen had been defeated by Martin Cremer by a majority of 49.

Mark Vaul, the only republican elected, carried the third by a majority of 76. It was a foregone conclusion that Worden would carry the fourth and he beat out Thayer in that ward by 111 to 61. Henry L. Stoup carried the fifth by 96, the biggest majority of the day.

The council now stands seven democrats and three republicans.
