Salem, April 8. - Mrs. Mary Johnson has returned after spending the winter with her sister in Kansas.

 

The contest social at Rev. Butler's was well attended considering the bad night.

 

Mrs. A. Taylor, of Northville, spent the past week with her daughter, Mrs. W. P. Lane.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Smith entertained friends at dinner last Tuesday.

 

Mrs. Mellie Smiths is on the sick list.

 

Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Lane spent the first part of the week visiting friends in Detroit.

 

Election was very quiet in Salem, the old officers being re-elected except clerk. Forest Roberts is the new clerk.

 

The Misses Bernice and Laura Austin left this week for Ypsilanti, Laura to enter the Normal and Bernice to finish her apprenticeship in millinery.

 

Mrs. A. J. VanAtta is making her daughters in Detroit a week's visit.

 

The ladies of the Salem Baptist church are cleaning the parsonage and getting it in readiness for the new pastor.

 

Wedding bells will soon ring in Salem.

 

There was $60 in money in the house of Mr. Jahn which burned recently.
