A citizen, wiios( opinión, if his ñamo was mentioned, would at once comtnand respect, called the Argus' attentiou ahent the subject of school bonds, to the rea son given ly the school board for their fallure to sell fhe property on the corner of liill street and Forest avenue. "Thla property," sald tho citizen, "is not now paylng taxes. The school board sald when the Perry school was built on iis present site that it would not be needed for school purposes. The only reason the board glvea for not selling it and applying tne proeeeds on tho Perry school is that they have not been offered thö prlce that some real estáte agent lias told theru it was worth. Now tliis property is very valuable residence property. If sold in all probabllity it would have at least $15,000 worth or buildings put upon it. This. with the valuè of the land. would pay twp or three hundred dollars annually in taxes. By keeping tho property, it pays no taxes, and the city will be paylng 4 per cent in interes: on the bonds made necessary by the lack of the money from me sale as orlginally planned. It would not take many years of loss of taxes and interost to eat up the present value of the land." '"The land," continued the prominent citizen. who is also a heavy taxpayer, "'is worth as much now as it will be a few years henee. If the board cannot pet just what they think it is worth. would it not be economy to take a few hundred dollars loss?" This opinión is given here because of the respect that the Argus has the opinión of the citizen who gave utterance to it.
