It will be good news to the people of Ann Arbor to know that Prof. M. E. Cooley has practleally deeided to retnain at the Michigan University notwithstanding the fine ofifer made him by the University of Wiseonsin. When asked as to his iutentions he said in gnbstance: "I have not finally detennined. I shall first have a talk with the dean iliout the matter, but I am inclined to think I shall remaiu in Michigan. The offer from Wiseonsin was made in such a kindly vray that it merited the fullest consideration. but. you see, I ean't make up my mind to leave Ann Arbor and Michigan. All my friends and aci]uaintaiices are in this state, and I prefer to stay here during the years that remain for me to work. "There is now in progress of construction at Ann Arbor one of the fiuest engineering buildings in the countr.v, and in it there will be severa! features entirely new to Ann Arbor. I hope to do sereral things in this new building whlch I have been uní'.lile to do b?fore, and I should dislike very much to leave Ann Arbor at this juncture." When asked if he is to assist tfci attorney-general in making a new estímate of the valué of the railroad property of this state in aid of the attorntygeneral in the suit now pending in the federal sourt. at Grand Rapids, Prof. Cooley said he had not yet been asked to take any part in the matter. Prof. Cooley Intlmated that he might recommend to the Wisconsin authorities that James Walker, the Michigan tax commission engiueer, be appolated for the work of appraising Wisconsin railroad properties. Walker has been the expert for the Michigan commission. It is stated by some of the engineering forcé that Prof. Cooley has liad four or flve very attractive offers from as many univorsities, one of tliom beLng fioni one of the leading eastern universities.
